Last match of the season = WIN!
We played the last match of the season this weekend against Johnsonville which is a makeup game. We won it 27-23. It was a fantastic game!
The last two Friday's I got on the piss and didn't feel too great for my matches on Saturday. So I made sure I didn't drink this Friday and make sure I was ready to play my last match.
The fullback that 've been spliting time with began the game out at wing and got hurt about 10 minutes into the match. Now I hate to see people go down but this basically meant that I was going to playing the whole match if i was up for it. So i was little apprehensive b/c I haven't actually played a full match in about 2 months and my fitness to me is less than par. But everything worked out alright and I played well. It wasn't a great and exciting match for me, but you can sum it up in one word: safe. I did well on defense and what was funny is that I ran the ball alot more instead of kicking it when I was behind my 22. So that was fun.
In the first 20 minutes we went down 17-3 I think. We ended up pulling it back by the end of the match. We had some help from some senior 1st players and thank them for the win. Some of those players definitely made a difference. Even my mate Tom got about 30 minutes.
So, it's better late than never on the Win I guess. At least we didn't get totally doughnutted and I can leave New Zealand with a win.
So now there is about 2 weeks and the 7's season begins. I think I'll probably play that as well. If anything just to stay in shape and be active. Last night I went to this gym called Les Mills. It was my first time in about 8 months going to a nice gym and I loved it. Makes me miss Red's as well. They have this special on right now to try out the gym for a month free. So I'm going to start that today and get back into it. I can see myself getting spouiled by it though anf not want to go back to using the rugby club. The thing about the rugby club is that I never know when someone is going to be there to open it up for me. So that really blows. Outa time. Will load some pics when I get on another computer. Cheers

Second to last match. loss
So I haven't been able to get on a post in a while. Tom is gone and so is his laptop, which I could use to access wireless internet from my lounge for the last couple weeks. So now it's back to the library thing.
Last week we played Old Boys University. We had a very close match with them in the first round so i was looking forward to this game. First match we lost 12-13 I believe. And I didn't think too highly of them so i figured this would be our win.
I only played the first half b/c we have a fullback that came down from the senior firsts and my coach tried to get everyone play time. And if a player comes down or is asked to go up in the teams they are "guaranteed" game time. So I played the first half and did pretty average. I was really feeling the effects of being sick for a month and I could tell my body isn't back to form yet. I didn't do terrible but also did nothing great. I did my job in the first half concerning defense b/c they had the wind and they used it quite a bit. We were leading 10-6 at the half.
In the second half we didn't do much with the wind or offensively. It was killing me sitting on the sideline. We ended up losing the game 16-15 when they kicked a penalty kick to put them ahead with 2 minutes left in the match. It was pretty heart-breaking. One more game to go. Johnsonville at home

So now things are back to normal. Chris is definitely gone and my brief but spectacular holiday is defintely over.
The weather over here has been nuts. They'll be days of terrible, rainy, hailing rain followed by a couple of days which make it not even seem we're in winter. The bad days usually come around Thursday or Friday so it has it's way with the rugby fields and leaves us with a bog with no chance to play. The two Saturday's Chris was here BOTH my games were canceled. So our season is done, except we have 2 more make-up games to play- the games which were canceled.
We lost our game last week 18-10. Funny enough, that was the score at half time. We had the wind in the second and didn't pull out any points, even when the opposition had 17 players on the field and we had 15. At one point they had a player hiding behind a tree so the ref didn't see him sneak on/off the field. Yeah.
I only played in the first half, and I was pretty happy with that. Before the match Saturday, I haven't done so much as walk. First I had that hamstring pull, then I was sick for about a month. So, to say the least I was a little out of shape. Surpringly enough, I felt fine at half, but we had many guys ready to play and the coach tried to get them in. Also, if a player moves down a grade or up a grade they HAVE to get a certain amount of play time. Someone came down from the senior first so my coach had to give him the second half at some position, so he took fullback.
My game was pretty smaverage. I didn't really do anything great and I didn't really expect to after doing absolutely nothing for a month.
So the two games coming up are Old Boys University and Johnsonville. The togh part about these late games is that we won't be playing the same team we played in the first round. Since the season is over for most teams, there will be Premier players and others from top echelon teams that will come down to help their "lower" team. The good thing is that OBU's senior first team is in the semi-finals so they won't be pulling help from them. So these two games are my team's only chance to get a win. Fingers crossed.
Meanwhile I've started working out this week again and boy is it freakin painfull. It feels like I've taken 6 months off the way I'm so sore. Ridiculous! I'm gonna sit out on the gym today and just do rugby practice. Don't want to be too sore for the match on Saturday! Well, hopefully it won't get canceled!

Holiday Time
This is only a fraction of the pics taken during the awesome Holiday Chris and I had. A truly awesome time. Just wish the weather would have been better.
This is the first time I left the lights on. Picking up Chris from the airport
Trying on costumes for the fancy dress party. Chris's first day in.
I opted out on this costume.
Mr. Biggles
Guess what Tom is...

Pre gaming it at the flat with Layla and her younger brother Jack

The mad hatter and Mr. Biggles.
My flat mate Pip.

Chris discovers the drinking rule called "double parked." Can't have two drinks at once.

Chris successfully finishes his baily's and beer. Disgusting

Pretty much the end of the night

The beginning of our trip north. Beautiful sunrise.

Our humble abode
The Volcano

Taking a break from our boarding lesson

Intense concentration

I felt strong.
This is me saying I'm an asshole. After a day of boarding we got to the car only to find out I left the lights on for about the 4th time that trip. Luckily we had cables which made it relatively painless to remedy. At this moment I take it upon myself to flag someone down.
Chris in the background.

Chillaxin on a chair made out of snow.

After boarding for a day and a half we decided to go for a little tramping.

Taranaki Falls. It's actually higher than the picture depicts

Tawhai Falls

I love me some mountain water. Ahhhhh

Funny sign
Me in the gondola ride up to the luge.

Heading up for another run.

I busted my but on the luge.

Chris liked his Zorbing experience.
Crazy Game of monopoly to pass the time as we sip on Crown Royal 1971. Beauty
The Backpackers we stayed at in Rotorua:
Wai-o-Tapo Thermal Park:

A little hot pool. It sure was some hot water
Sulfur Cave
"Artists Palette"
"Devils Bath"

The Lady Knox Geyser. Apparently they put soap in the geyser to speed up the process.

Mud Pit

Huka Falls

Birds helping me eat at Subway in Taupo
a massive "Gum Boot"

Layla and Ashley. Pretty much polar opposites when it comes to pool.
Chris Making up the madey

Mount Victoria

The Petone Premier side playing Northern United in the Semi Finals. Petone suffered a devastating loss 18-5.

The birds don't care about the match. They just want the worms

Watching the All Blacks vs Aussie. All Blacks played well and kicked that ass.
An Awesome Welsh bar. Boyd would love it.

Chris is drinking the worst beer on the pub crawl. A mix between beer, lime, and lemonade.Terrible.
The end of our pub crawl. Back in Petone to Portside. We're doing a "mini madey."

Getting there...
Closing time. Pretty drunk by this point.
The few hours before Chris has to leave. A very awesome afternoon.
